The idea of starting an outreach started as a discussion in 2010 among some brethren at Atebubu. After almost two (2) years of seeming neglect of the thought, grace located these three brothers in Tamale in 2012 on a work trip where the old idea came up again and ignited another long discussion. Drawing from their personal experiences, the discussions centered around how the pressures of professional practice and the world of work had made many Christians in the place of work not been an effective witness both in their local church and also at their place of work. To compound the issue, many of such working Christians could not also reach out to others (outside of their local church, town, city) who do not yet know the Lord. The brothers now asked themselves what could be done to help sustain their own fires and other brethren who were probably succumbing to the pressures of professional/working life – thus the name Graduates in Village Evangelism (GIVE) was conceived and born. GIVE therefore was to create a platform to mobilize graduates and working/professionals Christians to share fellowship (to nurture their own spiritual lives, to impact their spheres of influence) and to go do rural evangelism (to reach the poor and unreached in rural villages).
Following this discussion, the brothers started calling their like-minded friends (professional Christians) to come on board the idea and to voluntarily take up various leadership roles in this new small group according to their ability and skills. Within that same week, invitations were sent out to mobilize many more Christian professionals and the first outreach was planned and later held in the Atebubu District of Ghana in the second week of August, 2012.
In the years after, outreaches have been held in Sekyere West, Sekyere East, Amansie West, Afram Plains North and South districts reaching about 9000 people in 50 communities. GIVE outreaches has been very impactful in several ways including reviving the Christian professionals themselves but more importantly salvations, water and Holy Ghost baptism, healings for rural folks to whom the gospel is preached in power. All GIVE outreaches are interspersed with medical outreaches and donation of clothes to the rural poor.
